Reading and Reviewing!

I took a reading challenge to read 20 books (non-academic) by the end of 2018, fortunately, I was able to read two more than the Challenge.

Reading a whole lot of 10,000 pages was blissful. It helped me learned and understand myself better.
I was able to gain a new perspective on life, all thanks to these wonderful pages and people around me.

List of books on Goodreads.

Here is my review of these books and which ones should you definitely read (psst, The Palace of Illusions)!

By Dan Brown

As usual, we find ourselves in the familiar world of symbologist Robert Langdon.
He is invited to attend the unveiling of Kirsch’s discovery that he promises “will change the face of science, forever.”
Interesting ?
The narrative is fast-paced as well as captivating.
The book is a must-read for science geeks and Brown readers 😀

A Song of Ice and Fire

By George R R Martin

Book 1 — A Game of Thrones
Book 2 — A Clash of Kings

A very slow narrative.
The first book is almost like Season 1 of Game of Thrones.

The series is not complete yet, the last book released almost 10 years back.
Would recommend that you wait 20 more years to read the ASOIAF.

The Palace of Illusions

By Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

The Palace of Illusions is a 2008 novel by award-winning novelist and poet Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. It was released by Picador. The novel is a rendition of the Hindu epic Mahabharata as told from Draupadi’s viewpoint, namely, that of a woman living in a patriarchal world.

What is amazing about this novel is there, it could have been true and no one would have known. It shows how Women were a mere entity. Marriage was a way of making alliances.

It is beautifully written and definitely worth a read.

It is heart touching and I have no more words to describe it 🙂

The Fault In Our Stars

By John Green

This book is an eye-opener and says more about life in 300 pages, then you would have experienced in 3 years.

“That is the thing about pain, it demands to be felt.”

After reading this, you can never be the same person, and your outlook on life, emotions take you experience, change. You let your tears flow freely and let yourself into the pain, just to feel it.

I like my choices, I hope you like yours 🙂

The Shiva Trilogy

By Amish

Pick these up for a thrilling ride through Indian mythology!

The God you pray to today, was once a man, facing the same challenges as you, what he did differently was believed in his God and led his people gracefully.

There is a part in this book, a conversation between a Pandit and Shiva, they are looking at green leaves from another dimension, where everything appears black and white, white depicting positivity and black, negativity. Shiva looks around and then at himself, he’s completely black, he is shocked.
To this, the pandit replies, that he is absorbing the world’s negativity.
A beautiful way of representing a negative thought.

The opposite of love is not hate. Hate is just love gone bad. The actual opposite of love is apathy.

If you don’t have time for reading, there are freely available audiobooks.

Namaste _/\_ (I bow to the Divine in you).
